The Help
Richard Wright, Orvil E. Dryfoos Professor of Public Affairs and Geography

A novel set in Mississippi in the early 1960s that literallly gives voice to women working in the homes of wealthy whites, raising their children and keeping house. As someone interested in race and power and the microgeographies/ politics of racial mixing, I found this book very compelling. I listened to it in audio format and couldn't put down my iPod.
