For the past three years, Elizabeth Shribman ’10 has been working in management for the Czech Philharmonic in Prague and spending her free time playing for a traditional folk group called Muzicka.
Thanks to fan support, Muzicka and Shribman are currently on a 25-day, 10-state, 17-performance tour of the United States. Stops include playing the national anthem at the Pittsburgh Pirates' PNC Park July 8 and a visit to a Dartmouth music class and the Hanover Farmers' Market on July 24.
Shribman, a music major and the former manager of the Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra, says of her experience with Muzicka: "If you would have ever told me how much time I would spend running around this country dressed up like a 19th-century peasant playing Czech folk songs, I would have never believed it. It has truly been a life-changing experience for me in many ways, from broadening my horizons beyond the world of classical music to immersing me completely in a culture and a world that is not my own."
