Dartmouth on Location in New York

Morgan Library Bookshelves

Join us for an unforgettable evening for a Dartmouth-only event at The Morgan Library and Museum with an exclusive talk by Steve Swayne, the Jacob H. Strauss 1922 Professor of Music.

The acquisition by The Morgan Library and Museum of a previously unknown Chopin waltz presents a feast for pianists and scholars. Professor Swayne brings his expertise as a musicologist and a concert pianist to discuss this newly discovered piece and explore how it fits within the stories we know and talk about this undisputed master of music from the 1830s and ‘40s. The evening also includes Professor Swayne playing the newly discovered piece by Chopin live via piano that evening. The evening also includes time to visit the Belle da Costa Greene: A Librarian's Legacy exhibit which traces Greene’s storied life, from her roots in a predominantly Black community in Washington, D.C. and her career as the library’s inaugural director. Professor Swayne will share insights on the exhibit as well.
