Masters, Pieces, and Masterpieces
Dartmouth on Location in New York

Join us for an unforgettable evening for a Dartmouth-only event at The Morgan Library and Museum with an exclusive talk by Steve Swayne '57a, the Jacob H. Strauss 1922 Professor of Music.
The acquisition by The Morgan Library and Museum of a previously unknown Chopin waltz presents a feast for pianists and scholars. Professor Swayne brings his expertise as a musicologist and a concert pianist to discuss this newly discovered piece and explore how it fits within the stories we know and talk about this undisputed master of music from the 1830s and ‘40s.
The evening will allow you to see and hear it for yourself. Peruse the special display of the manuscript, and sit back and enjoy a portion of Chopin’s newly discovered waltz on piano, played by Professor Swayne. The evening also includes time to visit the Belle da Costa Greene: A Librarian's Legacy exhibit which traces Greene’s storied life, from her roots in a predominantly Black community in Washington, D.C. and her career as the library’s inaugural director. Professor Swayne will share insights on the exhibit as well.
