Chitra Narasimhan ’92 says she was both nervous and excited to come to Dartmouth. “For me, Dartmouth was the quintessential college in the perfect college town, and still is today for me,” she says. “But as the child of immigrants who did not have the experience of going to college in the U.S., Dartmouth was a great unknown and it was the first time I was away from home.” As an active volunteer, she is a former president of the Dartmouth Alumni Council and currently serves as the District Enrollment Director for Westchester, New York. She brings an enthusiasm for the strong alumni community that the 1769 Society comprises and its ability to create friendships and connections across classes and decades that demonstrate the power of the collective. Chitra and her husband have three children (a college graduate, an undergraduate, and a high school sophomore) and live outside of NYC. Retired from a career in financial services, she enjoys reading, nature walks, spending time with her kids, and sharing her strategic expertise with non-profit groups.

Ethan Weinberg ’12 has loved Dartmouth since his first visit, and credits his undergraduate years for developing the leadership, communication, and managerial skills that have served him professionally and as an avid volunteer for the College. He has been involved with fundraising since his fifth-year reunion and formerly served on the Dartmouth College Fund Committee. He has been a member of the 1769 Society since he graduated, feeling it a priority to support Dartmouth at that level. Ethan doesn’t want anyone to be in a position where they can't attend Dartmouth because of financial circumstances, and believes members are making a strong statement of the College’s mission to bring talented students from all backgrounds to campus. Ethan would like to increase participation in the 1769 Society among younger classes and wants to ensure continuation of the tradition and the power of giving at the 1769 Society level. Ethan lives in New Jersey with his husband, Daniel Van Deusen ’11, their daughter, Eleanor, and their corgi, Wilbur.

Martha Beattie ’76 was a member of the first full cohort of women to graduate from Dartmouth, and her history of volunteering for Dartmouth runs the full course of all the years since. She has participated in or lead innumerable alumni committees, boards, reunions, and initiatives, and continues to serve in multiple ways. She was the Dartmouth Vice President of Alumni Relations from 2011 to 2018. She is active in supporting Dartmouth athletics, particularly in rowing (she was national team rowing coach and founding coach for three rowing programs). As a 1769 Society co-chair, Martha wants to encourage wider participation and a greater awareness of the impact that a society-level gift makes for students. Martha lives in Hanover with her husband, Jim. They are often joined by an adult child (or three) for bike rides through the hills, hikes in the Whites, and ski trips. Warmer months often find Martha rowing a single scull on the Connecticut River.
