This year, the Alumni Relations team will be offering VOX sessions throughout the year. We hope you will attend as many as you can!
As you know, these sessions offer you the opportunity to share outstanding work and innovations, and chances to connect directly with fellow volunteers and share best practices. All volunteers doing engagement work for Dartmouth and Alumni Relations – Class, Club, and Group leaders, Dartmouth College Fund volunteers, and District Enrollment Directors are invited to join all the programming.

Green & Great: Class Acts in Action
This COAEB-led session will bring together Dartmouth alumni volunteers from across classes to share and explore best practices in class leadership, membership engagement, communications, and programming.
The interactive session will highlight real-world examples from individual classes that demonstrate effective and innovative approaches in these key areas. Following the presentations, participants will have the opportunity to engage in collaborative breakout discussions designed to foster the exchange of ideas, inspire new strategies, and strengthen the collective impact of class-driven alumni engagement efforts.

Tax Session for Treasurers
Our Dartmouth 501(c)(3) organizations are required to file yearly tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Presented by Dartmouth Alumni Relations and led by Tax Manager Alyssa Beneventi, this session includes instructions on how to complete 990 annual filings and other tips.

VOX Working Group Update

In the Spring of 2024, the VOX Working Group was established to bring together volunteers and Alumni Relations staff with the same purpose: re–establishing an in-person VOX. Volunteer feedback has been instrumental in shaping group discussions over these last few months. Join Alumni Relations and VOX Working Group Chair Joe Dempsey for an update on their progress and present the possible options for VOX's future. Details of the plans the Working Group formed will be shared, and there will be a discussion sharing how your input can help us achieve our goals. 2024 Tax Webinar
Presented by Alumni Relations and Rachel Williamson, Dartmouth Senior Tax Analyst
501(c)(3) organizations are required to file yearly tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). All organization presidents and treasurers encouraged to attend this yearly webinar presented by senior tax analyst Rachel Williamson. She will provide tips and detailed instruction on how to complete your organization's annual filing. Alumni Relations recommends this webinar for all organizations regardless of your filing deadline. As a reminder, organizations with a fiscal year ending June 30, 2024 MUST file a return with the IRS by November 15, 2024. Organizations with a different fiscal year MUST file a return with the IRS within four months and fifteen days of fiscal year close. View recording.

Serving Together: Recruiting and Retention
Presented by the Communities Executive Council (CEC) and Alumni Relations
Join the CEC and Alumni Relations to learn and share best practices on recruiting and retention. During this session, we will gather to share effective recruiting and retention strategies, offering inspiration and best practices among ourselves through idea sharing. To encourage networking and focused discussions, the event will conclude with 20 minutes of breakout rooms based on interests and involvement, including young alumni, affiliated and shared interest groups, large organizations, and small organizations.
Communicating With Your Class: Sharing Best Practices
Presented by the Class Officers Association Executive Board (COAEB) and Alumni Relations
This is a unique chance to gain insights, share experiences, and enhance your engagement with fellow volunteers. The panel will be moderated by Briana Stein, Associate Director of Alumni Engagement and panelists include Julie Hubble '87, President of the COAEB Communications Association, Rick Ranger, Class of 1974 Newsletter Editor, and Cindy Shen, Class of 2021 Vice President. This session for class volunteers includes but is not limited to newsletter editors, digital content managers, and social media chairs will focus on class communications and explore effective strategies for print, social media, and Encompass (formerly known as iModules) for email and the web.
C501(c)(3) Nonprofits and Dartmouth Organizations: Best Practices
Presented by Alumni Relations
The majority of our Dartmouth classes, clubs, and groups are 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations. As such, these organizations must file tax returns and are prohibited from engaging in activities that generate “private benefit,” constitute political intervention, and generate a substantial amount of non-mission related business or income among others. In this session, Brittany Raway, senior associate at Alston & Bird, will share more information about 501(c)3 nonprofits, compliance, what organizations can and cannot pursue, and answer questions from class, club, and group volunteers.
