Meet Your Faculty Expert
Jessica V. Trout-Haney
Jessica V. Trout-Haney is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Dartmouth, with a long-standing connection to polar and alpine environments. She specializes in freshwater ecosystems and how they respond to environmental change. Her research combines fieldwork, long-term datasets, and satellite analyses to understand changing water quality, harmful cyanobacterial blooms, and the movement of toxins through food webs.
Her research has taken her to Greenland and Antarctica, where she has studied the movement of microscopic life across air, land, and water, in addition to her longstanding work on lakes. She also serves as a Senior Coordinator for the Joint Science Education Project, an international collaboration that brings students to Greenland for immersive, field-based learning in polar science.
An experienced educator, Jessica teaches several ecology courses and leads field-based programs in both temperate and tropical systems. She is passionate about helping connect people to science and looks forward to sharing insights into polar ecosystems, climate change, and the dynamics of life in extreme environments while exploring Antarctica with fellow travelers.
