The small group adventure begins with sightseeing in Johannesburg’s renowned Soweto district. Then spending three nights near Zimbabwe’s spectacular Victoria Falls, experience this natural wonder and embark on a “Sundowner” Zambezi cruise. Take a game drive in search of the elusive black rhino. Next is Botswana’s Chobe National Park, boasting one of Africa’s largest concentrations of wildlife, for a three-night stay featuring sensational boat safaris and game drives. Day 1: Depart U.S. for Johannesburg, South Africa
- Fly overnight to Johannesburg to begin your African adventure
Day 2: Arrive in Johannesburg
- Arrive and transfer to a hotel in Rosebank with early check-in
- No scheduled activities to accommodate varied arrival times
Day 3: Johannesburg / Soweto
- Tour Soweto district including Mandela’s home and Hector Pieterson Museum
- Hear a firsthand account from a Sowetan present during the 1976 uprising
- Enjoy a welcome dinner with fellow travelers
Day 4: Johannesburg / Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
- Fly to Victoria Falls and settle into your lodge
- Visit the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls in the afternoon
Day 5: Victoria Falls
- Morning game drive to spot the rare black rhino
- “Sundowner” dinner cruise on the Zambezi River
Day 6: Victoria Falls
- Visit a local village and explore Victoria Falls town
- Evening lecture on “The Story of David Livingstone,” followed by dinner

- Visit a local school, then transfer to Chobe National Park
- Afternoon boat safari to see hippos, crocodiles, and birdlife

Meet Your Faculty Expert
Lisa Adams
Dr. Lisa V. Adams is the Associate Dean for Global Health, Director of Dartmouth’s Center for Global Health Equity, Director of Global Initiatives, and a Professor of Medicine in the Section of Infectious Disease and International Health at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine. In all her roles, she develops and oversees cross-cutting global health programs and partnerships involving faculty, staff and students.
As an international TB consultant, she has worked in over a dozen countries to provide technical assistance to Ministries of Health. She has published extensively on her TB and HIV research and on global health equity and education. At Dartmouth, she teaches global health and health equity to medical and college students. She is engaged in research on TB and HIV care and is leading major training initiatives in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Kigali, Rwanda. She recently worked with partners in China, Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), South Africa, and Ukraine on projects to improve the delivery of TB care services to vulnerable populations.
