Buddy Teevens had an immense impact on the  Dartmouth community and the world beyond. It is only right that his legacy is recognized and cemented in Big Green history—and the dedication of Buddy Teevens Stadium at Memorial Field ensured just that.

The celebration of Buddy and his life started on October 1, with posts across social media platforms encouraging people to take a moment and remember Buddy on what would have been his 68th birthday.

There are those who approach competition with a fundamental fierceness and others who approach human kindness with that same heartfelt passion. Few people are exceptional at either. Buddy was truly phenomenal at both.

Throughout the week, anticipation grew for the dedication ceremony, where the Teevens family, Dartmouth football players, and community members beyond traveled to campus to pay their respects—and witness a moment of Dartmouth history in his honor.

At the game against UPenn the following day, the celebration continued. Dartmouth Athletics put together a video in his memory, which was played at halftime—along with a speed fingerpainter who captured his likeness in two beautiful paintings.

It was the first game where the Dartmouth community was able to enjoy the Buddy Teevens Stadium in its full glory, with new signage at its front and right above the field.

Those who couldn’t join in person sent their well wishes via social media, describing Buddy and his impact in one word: humble, generous, passionate, sincere, selfless, and so many more.

It was the ultimate way to pay tribute to a man who changed so many lives and whose innovation and inclusivity helped Dartmouth reach new heights.
