The Rolling Stones and Rock on Film
Cleveland
February 22, 2014 at noon
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Join fellow alumni and professor Amy Lawrence for an afternoon discussion about the Rolling Stones and film. A fan of the Stones, Lawrence says, “Two of my favorite films—and films I often teach—are Gimme Shelter—the Maysles' documentary about the Stones at Altamont, and Performance, the 1970 British gangster film costarring Mick Jagger.”

Lawrence plans to share some clips from those films and compare them to other rock documentaries, such as Woodstock, A Hard Day’s Night, and Help!. Following her presentation, Lawrence will join the tour of the exhibition Rolling Stones: 50 Years of Satisfaction at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The exhibition includes personal items and ephemera never seen by the public.

The Mary Brinsmead Wheelock Professor in the Humanities, Lawrence’s research interests include British film and television, the role of sound in film, and animation. She has taught at Dartmouth since 1988.
