The Barnes Foundation

Join Michael Taylor, director of the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College, and explore the Barnes Foundation in its new 4.5-acre site in downtown Philadelphia, where it moved in 2012.

Designed by the noted architects Tod Williams and Billie Tsien, the new Barnes Foundation building has been praised by critics for offering a modern, brightly lit setting for the Barnes Collection, which includes works by some of the greatest European and American masters of impressionism, post-impressionism, and early modern art, as well as African sculpture, Pennsylvania German decorative arts, Native American textiles, and metalwork.

Known worldwide for his scholarship and expertise as a curator, Michael Taylor served as the curator of modern art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art for seven years before coming to Dartmouth in 2011. Taylor is now collaborating with Williams and Tsien on an expansion project for the Hood that will double its gallery space and triple its classrooms. Taylor’s presentation will include a preview of the Hood’s expansion plans.
