Pompeii: Life and Death in
the Shadow of Vesuvius

From the ashes came the greatest discovery of Roman life before the catastrophic eruption of Vesuvius 2,000 years ago. Hear from Professor Roger Ulrich '77, an expert on Roman history, and enjoy exclusive entry into this amazing exhibition at Discovery Times Square while connecting with fellow alumni and friends.
This exhibition includes more than 250 artifacts, some never-before-seen objects (statues, artwork, and jewelry) and the largest collection of body casts ever on display. An immersive movie experience offers a time-lapsed representation beginning at the moment of the massive explosion of Mt. Vesuvius. This Dartmouth on Location event is organized by the Office of Alumni Relations with support from the Dartmouth Club of New York City.
Professor Roger Ulrich '77 has taught Roman art, archaeology, and Latin at Dartmouth since 1989. He has consulted to the U.S. Department of Defense on the development of training materials for soldiers working in fragile archaeological sites in the Middle East. In 2007 he published Roman Woodworking (Yale University Press); currently he's editing a book on Roman architecture to be published in late 2011. Professor Ulrich has lectured frequently to alumni at DOL events and on Dartmouth Alumni Travel trips to Italy, Jordan, and Egypt.

8 pm: Timed entry into the exhibit at Discovery Times Square.
Event concludes when participants finish viewing the exhibit.
Cost
- $55 per adult
- $45 for Classes of 2005-2010 (subsidized by the Dartmouth Club of New York City)
