Lindsay Whaley
Lindsay Whaley is Professor of Classics and Linguistics at Dartmouth College and the former Associate Dean for International and Interdisciplinary Studies, former Associate Provost for International Initiatives, and former Interim Vice Provost at Dartmouth. He is an expert on linguistics and language typology, including endangered languages. One area of focus in Professor Whaley’s research is working with indigenous communities to maintain or revitalize their languages outside of a typical classroom setting. Many of these efforts draw on the reality that there is an intersection between language and land/environment, which has led him to a connection with several communities in the Arctic. Over the past two decades, he has been on the Board of Governors and served as the chair as the University of the Arctic.
