In this month's vlog, meet Triumph, a Class of 2026 senior from Cameroon majoring in Mathematics. In his four years at Dartmouth, Triumph has been a UGA, a mentor, and a connector — helping fellow students find internships, prepare for interviews, and navigate life on campus.
But his most ambitious project yet reaches far beyond Hanover. As co-founder of the Palaver Institute, Triumph is working to bring research mentorship to university students across Cameroon and other African countries — giving them the tools and guidance to pursue meaningful careers in research.

Hi, my name is Triumph. I'm a class of 2026 student.
So I'm a senior majoring in mathematics, and I'm from Cameroon.
On campus, I am part of the housing community for North Park House, where I'm a UGA. But we do intramurals, so sometimes you find me playing soccer or playing ice hockey. Either of them, pretty good.
And then also around campus, I also love working at the front desk at the library. You see me there often, and also at the gym.
In other ways, I also serve as a mentor to other students. But since I'm a senior, I've met a lot of students who have reached out to me. They want to understand how I've navigated Dartmouth so far. They want to know how to look for money for internships, for example. If they don't have a paid internship, where do they get funding? Also, they usually ask questions about: How do I get an internship? How do I prepare for interviews? How do I write a resume? So I've been able to help students across different roles. I've met a lot of students one-on-one. We go out sometimes for coffee in a group, and I'm able to provide as much ideas or resources as I've known throughout my time here.
Palaver Institute is the most recent organization which I've been part of, which I literally had to found with a group of friends back home at the end of my internship in junior year. And we are hoping to mentor a lot of students across Cameroon, across the different universities, want to create partnerships where we are going to create more like a diaspora research mentors are going to mentor students who are in Cameroon or in other African countries who are going to universities which do not offer research training. So they are going to get training for that, and they will come up with different projects that they want to do, and we'll find a mentor so they could execute that research project and advance their career in research.
