Hi, my name is Hermia. I'm a class of ’26. I'm from Beijing, China, and at Dartmouth I am involved with, the Political Economy Project, Magnuson Center of Entrepreneurship, as well as musical initiatives such as the Friday Night Rock. And I'm also an employee of the Hopkins Center.

Freshman year, I saw the main stage theater production and became really entangled with the space later. I have held three jobs here as house manager, usher, as well as Hop fellow. Since I'm also a music major, I have a lot of my classes here and I'm really excited for the renovation of the Hop because of the addition of two wonderful spaces.

One is the Roth Studio. It's a black box theater where we can do audio stuff, visual stuff at the same time. And I'm really excited for that because I'm going to have my own showcase that combines digital humanities and songwriting in that space very soon.

I'm also very excited for this recital hall that we are in right now because as you see, it's a very open space that invites imagination. And this past weekend, the jazz ensemble that I'm in actually performed here and this large open space really invites us to make all kinds of noises.

My favorite production is the Sunrise Gathering with Yo Yo Ma and 'We Are Water' crew. And it was just a wonderful moment to witness as people really connected with nature and other community members.

I really love that people can be so unserious here and that's really key to creating anything. Obviously, people have that ability to execute on the vision, but the fun, the unseriousness, really help create community and to imagine something bravely new.
