Big Green Love Stories: 2026 Edition

Celebrating couples who found love, Dartmouth style

A collage of couples with a heart that reads Dartmouth Love Stories

From chance encounters in Baker Library to late nights at the Hop and friendships that quietly turned into something more, Dartmouth has a way of bringing people together in unexpected ways. These Dartmouth Love Stories trace relationships that began on campus—or were shaped by it—and have grown into lives shared across decades, continents, and chapters of life.

Carla Boehm Sloan ’80 and Ed Sloan ’80

How we met: At the end of freshman year in 1977, Ed picked my face out of the Freshman Book and said to his mom, “I’m going to go out with that girl when I go back in the fall!”  What followed was a long and winding road…until our junior year in 1978.

Shared memory: We both attended a Halloween party in Alpha Chi’s basement.

A photo of the Sloans in 1978 and at their recent reunion.

I borrowed a butterfly costume, and Ed wore five Lacoste shirts and foul weather gear— everyone knew he was dressed as his sailor roommate, Bart.  We hung out that evening, and the rest is history.

Today: Forty-seven years, four kids, two grandchildren, and miles of globetrotting later, here we are. A Dartmouth love story to be sure.

Christina Yu ’05 and Eric Eisenberg ’05

How we met: Eric and I didn’t meet at Dartmouth—we met in kindergarten. Despite being lifelong friends, obsessing over college admissions together and partnering in nearly every subject in high school, Eric didn’t have the guts to ask me out for high school prom or at Moosilauke Lodge after our Freshman Trip, but he did 10 years later in New York City.

Today: Fast forward another 10 years, and we just celebrated our 10-year wedding anniversary in Santorini. Today, we live an active and intellectual life in both Miami and New York, where Eric is an intellectual property lawyer, and I run an AI company and write fiction.

Jen Jaco-Whitaker ’13 and Jeremy Whitaker ’15

How we met: Jeremy Whitaker ’15 and I were set up by a mutual friend on a blind date on January 22, 2013, during my senior winter. I was a psychology major and in EKT, and he was an honors English major in SigEp. Our first exchange was over Dartmouth email, where he addressed me as “Jennifer.” I replied with a small correction—“please call me Jen”—and he has jokingly called me Jennifer ever since.

We met at the Hop for late night and have been together ever since. After his senior year and the end of my Presidential Fellowship, we moved to Chicago, where we’ve lived ever since. We got married in 2019, with lots of Dartmouth friends in attendance. Cameron Orth ’13 was our best man, Carla Galarza ’13 was my maid of honor, Victoria Lucyk ’14 was my matron of honor, and Morgan Wharton ’13 and Katelyn Burgess ’13 were my bridesmaids.

Shared memory: We just celebrated our 13th dating anniversary. We’ve kept the original email chain we sent each other from our Dartmouth accounts in 2013 and reply to it every year. This year, we added an AI-generated summary to the thread, just to see how technology has changed since our first date.

Today: We bought a house outside Chicago in 2020, so I assume we will be here a while!

Attiya Khan-Mullins ’22 and Kyle Khan-Mullins ’22

How we met: We met through a mutual friend (my husband was the cute nerdy guy who worked at Still North). The rest is Big Green history!

Shared memory: After our introduction, we got to know each other better through our work with the War and Peace Fellows program.

Today: We got married in 2024 and are now eagerly awaiting our first child!

Hailey Fox ’22 and Basile Montagnese ’22

How we met: Basile lived on the floor above me in Mid-Fay. We met in the basement common area the first week of school.

Today: We are engaged and are getting married in September!

Luzmila “Luzi” Robinson ’88 and Arthur “Tiger” Robinson ’86

How we met: My husband, Arthur “Tiger” Robinson ’86 and I met at Dartmouth in 1984 during my Freshman Fall. We have been together ever since.

Today: We just celebrated the day we started dating 41 years ago and have now been married for 35 years.

We have three adult sons, one who went to Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), one who is at NYU, and one who is our Dartmouth legacy. He went to Dartmouth College and Thayer 💚

Jennie Cunningham ’17 TH’18 and Sarah Whittaker ’16

How we met: We met at a mutual friend’s birthday party in South Fay during the fall of 2014. What started as a casual night out turned into something more, and Dartmouth became the backdrop to the beginning of our story.

Shared memory: During our time at Dartmouth, we loved being outside and going on little adventures around the Upper Valley.

To this day, one of our favorite Hanover traditions is grabbing a Lou’s breakfast sandwich and walking over to Mink Brook for a picnic. Lake Morey in Fairlee, Vermont holds a special place in our hearts, too—we used to make trips up there to ice skate in the winter and catch a movie at the drive-in during the warmer months.

Today: We were married in May 2025 at Lake Morey and returned to Hanover for our rehearsal dinner at Murphy’s. This summer, we’re looking forward to celebrating our clustered 10-year reunion and coming back to campus together.

Andrés Rosales ’20 TH’21 and Itzel Castañeda ’20

How we met: We met our freshman year, became friends through LALACs housing and events, and started dating our junior year!

Shared memory: One of our favorite Dartmouth memories is canoeing and paddle boarding together on the Connecticut River our junior summer. This was an event the LALAC house hosted. Neither of us was very outdoorsy before Dartmouth, so this is a date we look back on fondly.

Today: We got married on October 18, 2025! We now live in Chicago with our dog, Chiquis!

Audrey Scott ’19 and Carson Spahr ’19

How we met: We met our junior spring in public policy 41, both trying to fulfill an “art” credit while being horrible at art. The seats were situated in a “U,” so we ended up staring at each other Tuesdays and Thursdays and started spending time together after class on FFB (First-Floor Berry). However, the first move came after we matched on Last Chances (he famously only guessed my name).

Today: We’ve now been together over seven years and are getting married this summer! We still credit Last Chances to being the best wingman out there.

Mackenzie Morse ’17 and Sam Morse ’20

How we met: Sam and I met while temporarily living in the basement of a Dartmouth alum for a few weeks—an in-between chapter for both of us as we figured out our next housing situation.

Today: Sam is an alpine athlete who is still working his way through Dartmouth, even though he started in the fall of 2016.

Dartmouth has been a really fun part of our lives to share as he continues to pursue his ski career. He wouldn’t be able to earn his bachelor’s degree without Dartmouth’s flexible quarter system. In a few short weeks, he’s heading to the Olympics, and I’ll be there to support him—not only as his wife, but also in a professional capacity, as I work for the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee. I first began working in the Olympic movement through Dartmouth alumni connections.

Katie Toal ’19 and Ted Poatsy ’17

How we met: I met my husband in the basement of Pi Kap. The first night we met, we played pong together. Sparks didn’t fly that night, but we remained friends of friends throughout college. I used to tell my friends “I love him” every time he was mentioned, but never thought anything of it. He was a ’17 and I was a ’19, so after graduation we continued to go to the same parties and see each other occasionally for several years. Then, he popped up on my Hinge and we matched.

Today: After five years together, we got married this past summer in Woodstock, Vermont! Several of our friends stayed in Hanover the night before, and our wedding even featured the dance to “Every Time We Touch” because we had so many alumni! It was the best day.

Julia Edgar ’06 and Jason Edgar ’05

How we met: Jason Edgar ‘05 and I somehow never crossed paths in our three years overlapping as undergraduates, despite being involved in many of the same classes and activities (thanks, D-Plan). We met four years after I graduated, on a July 4th camping trip in the Shenandoahs organized by friends from the Class of ’06. It kicked off a two-year long-distance relationship between his home in Washington, D.C., and mine in New York.

Today: After marrying in 2014, we’ve continued “round the girdled earth,” living in New York, Seattle, Hong Kong, and now Sydney. Dartmouth remains part of our lives, from the alumni friends in these places to the Big Green gear our kids wear proudly.

Kaitlyn (Sheehan) Ramirez ’09, TU’16 and Rodrigo Ramirez ’06 GR’14

How we met: Rodrigo and I met on campus while studying Japanese. We started dating in the spring, shortly before Rodrigo’s graduation. We stayed together through my study abroad in Tokyo and a couple of cross-country moves for Rodrigo. We started building a life together in Hanover over the next decade.

Rodrigo advised Dartmouth students for Career Services and as an assistant dean in the Office of Pluralism and Leadership, earning his M.A. in Globalization in parallel. I began my career in the President’s Office and Finance & Administration division and completed my MBA at Tuck. We moved together to NYC as I kicked off a nearly decade-long career in Technology Investment Banking at Morgan Stanley, and Rodrigo took his higher education talents to CUNY.

Today: This year marks 20 years since we first started dating, and 13 years of marriage. We now have two beautiful little boys, RJ (4) and Tommy (3), and reside on Long Island. At our side every step of the way has been our dog Bambam, who crossed the rainbow bridge just this month, after 16 years as our faithful friend/good boy. We return to Hanover whenever we get the chance, for reunions and events at the Hop.

Kathy Sweetland ’00 and Andy Sweetland ’00

How we met: My husband, Andy and I met in the 1902 Room of Baker during sophomore fall. When I noticed he had the professor’s class reader for Psych 22 and asked him what he thought our test would be like. Not long after, we had our first date, a walk to the BEMA, and were married in 2003!

John Sinclair ’18 and Lillian Sinclair ’19

How we met: My wife Lillian and I met a month before my graduation at Bones Gate/Kappa joint meetings. We went and played pong that night at Beta and got mozzarella sticks at Late Night.

Today: We’ve been married two years 🙂

Paige Duffy Orvis ’17 and Blake Orvis ’17

My now husband and I were both athletes (football and field hockey) and 2017 grads. We got married this summer in rural Maine, surrounded by all our Dartmouth family!
