Food and beverages are big decisions for Reunion, since they often take up more than half of the Reunion budget and will serve as the foundation for the ambiance of your receptions and meals.

A lot of details come together to treat your guests to something extraordinary, so be sure to begin planning early, starting by reading the College’s list of approved caterers. Work carefully with your caterer to ensure a proper amount of food is served with enough variety that all attendees will find something they enjoy. Catering Chairs are also in charge of ordering linens for their venues, so be sure to check out the page on venues for more information on what linens you’ll need.

Beverage Chairs should work closely with Catering Chairs to create an appropriate plan for drinks. Please keep in mind that as of March 2015, hard alcohol is no longer permitted on campus. This is part of a set of measures and policies known as Moving Dartmouth Forward, which allows Dartmouth to achieve its greatest potential. The full policy is available online if you would like to learn more.

A Note on Beer

Beer must be served from kegs, and bottles or cans are not permitted. This is because they take up more space and weigh significantly more than kegs and are difficult for student bartenders to move and handle. They also require more time and ice to chill than kegs and cannot be moved to and from meal locations while they are on ice. Additionally, during Reunions, recycling cannot be done and trash removal of empty bottles is not possible given the number of events occurring and being supported by the facilities staff.

The exception to this rule is a single tasting event. This would include a limited number of bottles and needs to be planned carefully. Please contact us for more information about how to schedule a tasting.
