John Stomberg, the Virginia Rice Kelsey 1961s Director of the Hood Museum of Art, discusses a new photography exhibition at the Hood, featuring notable artists on both sides of the lens. The photographers are famous practitioners from Matthew Brady to Annie Leibovitz. Their subjects are artists, writers, and thinkers such as Albert Camus, Frida Kahlo, Edgar Allen Poe, and Alice Walker. Stomberg talks about a special balance of creative power required between portrait photographers and their subject.
