In Pursuit of Excellence

Dartmouth College Recognizes with Deep Appreciation the Extraordinary Achievements of

Stanley L. Weil '79
2019 Secretary of the Year –  26 Years Out and Older

Stanley, as Tina Turner sings, “You’re simply the best.” Your love and passion for Dartmouth leap off the page in each issue of the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine. Your Class Notes strike the right balance of informative update, poignant remembrance, and the occasional history lesson. In the past year you wrote about a retired doctor who began a second career as a volunteer “Jedi ambulance driver”; a wedding of Dartmouth alumni who are each children of classmates; and an astrophysicist studying Mars’ atmosphere. Your May/June 2019 column was particularly engaging, featuring a classmate who detailed her family history as the granddaughter of H.P. Hood and her journey to serve as trustee for her grandfather’s foundation, which works to support pediatric medical research to improve children’s quality of life.

It’s no surprise you’re receiving this recognition. You are a vital member of a class that has won Class of the Year honors eight times. Your journey to greatness began in 1975. You spent your time in Hanover writing for The Dartmouth and as a member of Bones Gate/Delta Tau Delta. Parent to Zachary, Aubrey, and Jake ’15, you became your class secretary in 2011, vice president of the Class Secretaries Association in 2015, and then president two years later. With an M.B.A. from Wharton, you brought to the CSA your valuable organizational experience, painstakingly chronicling individual class secretary participation and creating a new initiative to spotlight the three best columns in each issue. And you still manage to find time to email every single classmate on their birthday, a fantastic best practice that yields your impressive wealth and breadth of updates.

Stanley, today we celebrate your outstanding work as class secretary. We appreciate all you do for the Class of 1979 and the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine. Congratulations and thank you for your incredible service.
