The Class of 1989
2014 Reunion Class of the Year

The Class of 1989 executive committee went into its 25th year with clear goals. Among them: to plan an amazing reunion, to break reunion giving records, to find a solid set of class officers for the following five years, and to plan a strong set of mini-reunions leading up to their 25th. Not only did they meet every one of these objectives over the course of the year, but the Class of 1989 surpassed their goals enthusiastically, creatively, and collaboratively, standing out as an exemplary reunion class.

The class executive committee, partnered with the reunion committee, was the key to success for the Class of 1989. With a strong team of dedicated volunteers, class president Ellie Loughlin and reunion chair Jennifer Avellino paved the way to a standout 25th reunion. At a variety of executive committee meetings and mini-reunions throughout the year, Ellie, Jennifer, the executive committee, and the reunion committee amped up classmates and class officers up for what would be a spectacular event. Classmate Eric Berlin led the attendance committee, reaching out to every single classmate to encourage them to come. Thanks to these efforts, 820 guests returned to campus in June. Tom Beecher, class treasurer and reunion treasurer, seamlessly handled class finances with great success.

The reunion itself featured three engaging and well-attended classmate panels: Around the Girdled Earth; Dare a Deed: Public Service, Community Impact; and The Road Less Traveled: Life in the Arts. Other highlights included a Mt. Moosilauke hike and overnight stay, a productive class meeting and new officers election, a Saturday morning fun run, and a beautiful memorial service held in the Rockefeller Courtyard.

The Class of 1989's leadership and generosity has left its mark on Dartmouth. In collaboration with the entire class leadership team, the reunion giving committee personally contacted classmates to solicit participation. These tireless efforts raised $8 million, a $1.7 million increase from the previous reunion giving record.,.

One classmate wrote on a reunion survey, "I am so impressed with Jennifer Avellino, Ellie Loughlin, and the rest of my classmates who so carefully orchestrated this end of our reunion. Feeling proud and lucky to be part of this class!"

In recognition of its many successes and for executing a wonderfully memorable 25th reunion, we are honored to present the 2014 Reunion Class of the Year award to the Great Class of 1989.
