We are funded by DARPA and by venture capital investments, and we are currently aiming to launch our first flight hardware in the coming year.

Internship Position Description
As an engineering intern, you will be involved with many aspects of developing flight hardware for upcoming demonstration launches. Your roles may include testing and debugging electrical boards, helping to write controller software, designing and building mechanical testing facilities, and taking plasma plume and thrust test data. You will work closely with a tight-knit group of plasma scientists and aerospace engineers on a daily basis. You can expect to take ownership of one or two main projects throughout the course of the internship, while helping out on many other tasks when and where needs arise. The style of internship project will be determined by the desires and the specific skill sets of the intern.

The intern should be a physics and/or engineering sciences major, with hands on experience designing, building, and testing engineering or science hardware. The ideal candidate will possess a good balance of both hardware and software skills, and will have a demonstrated capability of taking on new projects from scratch, learning about them, and finding and implementing a solution. Important skills for the job include: machining, both mill and lathe; coding in Matlab and/or Python; data acquisition using laboratory hardware and LabView; mechanical design using SolidWorks; electrical board soldering and debugging. More than anything else, the intern should have the desire to work in the burgeoning space industry, and should want to find novel solutions to hard new problems in aerospace engineering and plasma science!

We are a non-profit organization that provides free eye exams and glasses to K-12 students in low-income communities. We were founded in 2012 with a clear goal -- to give every child the glasses they need to succeed in school and in life. The "Eyessociate" will divide time between Our national office in Los Angeles and working in the field (in the LA area) with partnering community organizations. Office work will include helping operations staff with community outreach and data entry to maximize the number of children we can serve. Field work with consist of training to provide basic eye screening to children followed by intern regularly screening children to determine which need vision exams. Organization Description
United States Magistrate Judge sits in the federal district court in Los Angeles.  The judge hears a variety of federal civil cases, criminal actions, appeals from federal administrative agencies, and habeas corpus proceedings involving state criminal convictions. He and other judges on the court conduct trials, hearings, sentencings, and settlement conferences in these cases.

Internship Position Description
The internship with the judge has three components. (1) Interns will review and analyze pending cases for the Court. Examples include reading transcripts of criminal trials, medical records in discrimination and disability cases, and legal briefs submitted by lawyers and prisoners. Interns may also be required to conduct legal or factual research for the judge. (2) Interns will accompany and assist the judge at proceedings in the courtroom and in chambers. If needed, interns will review materials and draft memos to help the judge prepare for hearings, meetings, and settlement conferences. (3) Interns will be free to attend trials, hearings, and proceedings with other federal judges in the district. Our court regularly hears cases involving white collar crime, entertainment and intellectual property disputes, and other high-profile matters.

Desired Qualifications
Successful applicants will have top-notch writing skills and the ability to absorb large amounts of factual materials. Legal research skills are a plus. Because of the nature of federal court proceedings, interns must demonstrate maturity and professionalism at all times. The judge anticipates that this internship is suited for a college student who anticipates applying to law school after graduation and would like to know more about the real-world practice of law.
