When it came time to apply to colleges, your parents gave you one major guideline: that it must fall within a two-hour driving radius from your hometown of Medford, MA. How appropriate that Dartmouth was exactly two hours away, exactly where you wanted to go and exactly where you ended up!

Learning from a world-class faculty (including John Kemeny, who taught your intro to computer science and math classes), gaining sound advice from your Dean of Freshmen Margaret Bonz, managing the men's swim team, exploring new academic opportunities, making lifelong friends, and majoring in computer science were just some of the things that helped shape your own unique Dartmouth Experience. The icing on the cake took place your senior year when you met a dashing young man, Hugh, who would turn out to be your future husband.

Upon graduation, you headed to Boston and started a career at Fleet Bank (Bank of Boston), where you worked your way up to senior systems analyst of its cash management division. After Hugh attended law school at Vanderbilt, he returned home and you two soon married. You managed the home front while you and Hugh raised three wonderful sons, and your career eventually aligned with the school your children attended, Buckingham, Browne & Nichols (BB&N). It comes to no surprise that you thrived as an educator, starting as a substitute teacher before becoming a full-time graduate intern at the BB&N Teacher Training Institute, a collaborative program with Lesley University from which you earned your master in education. Most recently, you have put your skills to use as a math specialist for grades one through five at the Advent School in Boston.

BB&N has been the recipient of your volunteer efforts through the years as well. You've been the treasurer of the parents association, the treasurer and co-chair of the lower school annual "circus," and treasurer and co-chair of the school's silent auction. Additionally, you have been co-president of the Garden Nursery School, a parent- and teacher-run cooperative preschool located in Harvard Square in Cambridge.

When it comes to your alma mater, however, we can safely say you've made a second career out of volunteering for Dartmouth. You claim much of this has to do with former Director of Alumni Relations, Nels Armstrong '71, who learned very quickly that when he asked, you said "yes." You have served as a district enrollment director in the Boston area for almost 20 years, and since 2005 you were appointed by the Admissions Office to the additional role of area enrollment director (one of a handful in the country) to act as the senior enrollment director for the Greater Boston area, coordinating efforts among the seven DEDs in the metropolitan area. You've also been a member of the Alumni Council, during which time you chaired its Enrollment and Admissions Committee and Young Alumni Distinguished Service Award Committee and had the arduous task of chairing the Nominating and Alumni Trustee Search Committee. For the Dartmouth Club of Greater Boston, you've been treasurer, co-president, and perpetual member of its executive board. For the Great Class of 1986, your roles have included class treasurer and treasurer of your 20th and 25th reunions. As a result of your boundless dedication to Dartmouth, tonight you become only the 10th person among your 73,000 fellow alumni to receive both the Young Alumni Distinguished Service Award and the Dartmouth Alumni Award.

Maya Angelou once said: "Love life. Engage in it. Give it all you've got. Love it with a passion, because life truly does give back, many times over, what you put into it." How fitting a statement to reflect your vitality, generous spirit, and compassion. In recognition of your many life accomplishments and for all that you do to make this institution a better place, it is our great honor to present you with the Dartmouth Alumni Award.
