Belinda Chiu '98

Dartmouth Young Alumni Distinguished Service Award

Just 11 years out, Belinda's logged many volunteer miles for Dartmouth as a district enrollment director and enrollment interviewer. She's been an Alumni Council representative, serving on the council's Executive Committee, Young Alumni Committee, and other committees, and she's been co-chair of the Dartmouth Asian Pacific American Alumni Association. She lives in Durham, NC.

You've served in many volunteer roles for Dartmouth. Which role delighted you in some unexpected way?  Each experience has introduced me to and reunited me with so  many wonderful members of the Dartmouth family. If I had to pick one, I'd say the late-night Occum Pond walks with fellow members of the Alumni Council followed by retreats to the Canoe Club.

More than 3,000 alumni volunteer for Dartmouth in various capacities around the globe. Have any advice or tips for them? Thank you for all you do! Whether we agree or disagree on certain things, we're all on the same page about ensuring that Dartmouth continues to be  an unparalleled place for the next generation of global leaders.

All Dartmouth alumni have favorite anecdotes about fun with pals in their student days. Can you share an anecdote from your volunteer days? Club and Affiliated Group Officers Weekend 2008 ... A bunch of '98s and a '97 ... We'd all been active student leaders who'd worked closely together, and now here we were, back together. Other than being a bit older and more wrinkly—and the 10-year-old boy playing video games in the corner—it was like time hadn't passed. We're still causing trouble. You know who you are ... EBAs, anyone?

Why do you volunteer? Why not?
