10. Japanese Zelkova In the mid-20th century, the Japanese zelkova was thought to be a suitable replacement for the elms, which were succumbing to Dutch elm disease. The zelkova proved not to be as close a match to the elm, but it showed a beauty all its own, as this specimen on the northeast corner of Wentworth Hall demonstrates. |
