Remarks by World War II Veterans from Class of '42 and former Dartmouth President James Wright '64a.
On the 68th anniversary of D-Day, the Dartmouth Club and Dartmouth Alumni Association of NYC are pleased to host a reception and panel discussion honoring all Dartmouth veterans of military service. Members of the Class of '42 will make remarks on their book Dartmouth at War, and will be joined by former Dartmouth President James Wright, whose new book, Those Who Have Borne the Battle, A History of America's Wars and Those Who Fought Them, will be published May 1.
Dartmouth at War was published on the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor and is a collectionof essays written by 107 members of the Class of 1942, their widows, and theri children. Clas President Leo Caproni and classmate John Mendes will talk about how and why tthe book was produced.
Former President Wright, a noted historian and former Marine, starts his book with the civil war and presents incisive history of America's complicated relationship with its armed forces. Thise Who Have Borne the Battle relates the burdens carried by veterans historically, as well as by those fighting today. He challenges Americans to do better for those who serve and sacrifice.
